Behold

The Baby Kimono

Pattern from Interweave Knits Summer 2005 by Kristin Spurkland (size 6 mos.)

Yarn Rowan Cashsoft Baby DK 50% extra fine merino, 40% acrylic microfibre, 10% cashmere 2+ skeins (142 yds ea)

Alterations Added a blue single crocet border to make it more "macho."

Thoughts This yarn is like butter to work with. Better than butter- more like ice cream. I can't wait until I make something for myself that turns out this well.

Now if she only gives birth to a very small zebra.

That is a macho baby sweater! It looks almost vintage with the blue crochet edge.

Before this post, I don't think anyone in the history of the written word has put 'macho' and 'baby kimono' in the same sentence, nice work!

I guess the truth is- you can quit the retro crochet, but the retro crochet won't quit you.

Absolutely beautiful. Congratulations! I'm a big fan of yellow and blue for baby boys--both mine wore lots of that combination (and had their rooms decorated in yellow and blue), and they looked adorable. I'm sure the mom-to-be will love it.

thanks for your comment on my blog. i'm new at this and excited someone's actually reading it! your kimono is adorable and it sounds like it's nice and soft and cuddly too. it looks very nice on the zebra and i'm sure it'll look even better on a baby. i love the trim you added. it gives it that little extra something. anyway, glad to see that sophie is doing okay (no picture). give her a little extra kitty snuggle for me.

Cute! Very Macho. hehe

I like the Rowan too, but did you find a lot of bad bits in your skeins? I find notes and just frayed parts, a bit more often than I'm happy with. It's so soft and has great drape, but it keeps bumming me out.

Jen- I probably found maybe one little skushy bit per skein- it was baby dk if that makes a difference. It is definitely the drape that makes this feel so great
