Shoveling, Freezing, Knitting and Baking (not necessarily in that order)

And none of which has produced any blogworthy posts.

Last week I did go sled-riding in my car down our driveway (about a 45 degree angle). Really it was ice-riding and I was relieved to have remembered which way to turn the steering wheel when I was going backwards. A smash into a giant maple tree and a roll into a sloping field was averted.

It's cold. It's snowy. While I'm not fond of it all, I'll refrain from complaining because I realize that there is at least a month and a half more to endure and I don't want to be complaining that long. I prefer to complain when I know there's an end in sight.

I baked and apple pie filling cake in the wrong pan. The internet told me I could use a 10" springfoam pan instead of a bundt pan. The internet LIED. The batter fit but it ended up soggy where the bundt hole would have been. I ate it anyway. Mr. Sophanne did not love it. What's not to love about eggs, sugar, flour, oil, cinnamon and apple pie filling? He's not a cake with stuff in it kind of guy. That didn't bother me much.

LisaBe displayed a finished shawl on Fbook. I loved it and copied her. It's Clockwork by Stephen West. Ooh La La. In terms of color play it reminds me of Brooklyn Tweed's Noro Scarf. I'm doing it in some chocolate malabrigo sock yarn and some STR from this year called "the fiber with no name." It's brought back some knitting mojo. I'm going to go out on a limb and say a good pattern with luscious yarn will always do that.

In the continuing effort to rid myself of the mounds of cascade that was purchased with delusional thoughts of knitting fantasies, I've started a log cabin afghan. I'm hoping that I stick with this one- the multi-colored babette just wasn't doing it for me in terms of stash busting.

I like the mindless knitting involved in this. It's also very interesting to see what happens to colors when you put them next to other colors. Generally, they become less offensive.

If you're looking for a soundtrack for this post, insert a "little bit sick" husband who believes he might be the sickest person ever.

hooray for contagious knitting! i love my clockwork. and my husband gave a spontaneous, "it's really beautiful!" yesterday. that *never* happens.

i love the idea of a stash-busting afghan and love your log cabin! i still yearn to do a babette. every time i finish a sock, i think how pretty that yarn will be with all my other leftovers in a babette. and yet i still haven't made one.

Damn you! (not really) You just sent me on an hour-long Ravelry quest, looking at all the Clockworks. Yours is still my fave, btw. There are so many beautiful sock yarns that are not really suited for hard-wearing socks, and I am beginning to venture into that land. Clockwork is perfect!

That log cabin is great! Glad you can drive in reverse...that sounds kind of scary!

I love Carol's comment;-D Your Clockwork is beautiful and I absolutely refuse to look at the pattern. I'm weak and I know it. As for the weather? I have 6-8 weeks more and am seriously tired of white snow and dirty everything else. I might be a bit OCD.

I just realized that being OCD has absolutely nothing to do with the weather. I'm a knucklehead and apologize.

Sounds as if, with your husband, you don't know if you need a doctor or a drama critic. Some people just like to have peak experiences - good or bad. You have my sympathy.

You're a better woman than I - taking a car out in the ice. If it's not a matter of life or death, I'll stay home, thank you.

The afghan rocks! And the shawl is loverly.

I am an idiot- I'm like why do you call it ManCold when it's cold outside- NOW I get it!

Winter is sucking here but we have no snow! Just incessant dark- wet- darker and wetter shite! LOVE your knitting especially the cheerful colours of the log cabin pattern. It's just...SWELL!

Thank you for making me laugh! Repeatedly. I love the afghan! There's nothing like an afghan for stashbusting. And a log cabin is awesome if you're easily amused, as I am, because the color changes so often. At least until it gets big and you want to stick a dpn in your eye because you're so sick of brown.

I'm totally with you about the butter, sugar, apples thing. What's not to love? You don't even have to cook it for me.

And the slide down the hill? Actually made my palms sweat. When I lived in Philadelphia, we had ice storms and I tried to drive. One long slide down the street later, I managed to push my car against the curb and left it there for the rest of the winter.

I'd've eaten the cake too. It sounds awesome.

Your Clockwork is really cool! I was just looking at that pattern.

My baby blanket log cabin got frogged. Way too much time, not nearly using up enough yarn. It was baby yarn though. Cascade is clipping along on my curve of pursuit.
