What I learned yesterday

I can knit cables without a cable needle- being careful not to twist didn't work out like I had planned but no biggie- I was going to steek anyway

Crochet up the sides of steeking area.

Make sure you can see the ladders in the middle of the stitch to be cut.

Have at it. No biggie.

This giant swatch is in some water to be blocked and then I'll decide if the yarn is too busy for a cabley-jackety sort of thing with a zipper.

so, wait--the single crochet keeps the stitches from ripping? do you have to leave it there? or do you apply some kind of trim? this intrigues me--i've never seen that before!

Oh, god. I gasped out loud at the sight of the scissors. I feel sick.

that's cool. I like the cables.

very confused..for what type of project would you want to start round and then cut to make flat? why not just start flat?

on the other hand the cables are neat. congrats on doing them with out a needle---that scares me!

Fearless knitter, you are. You go at it with those scissors! Steek! Eeek! It may just be the photo but it seems that the cables don't "pop" with that yarn.

Oh my, when scissors are involved it gets a bit more stressful. You made it look so easy, I may have to give the crochet steeks a try. The sewing maching steeks are bit fiddly.

I so wanted to go to his classes. but I had to work. Cabling without a needle is easy that is the only way I cable, makes it an easier project to carry around. I agree the yarn doesn't work with cables. Actually reminds me of rag socks.

I like it better when the cables "pop" on a yarn's background. I would use this marled yarn for a simple sweater. The yarn has a lot going on with it without adding intricate patterning that really won't show well on it anyway. Otherwise I am duly impressed with the steek process. Scissors. Beautiful yarn. Very appropriately scary for October.
